How to ensure a business vision does not turn into tragedy?

Training based on a real-life business case:  OceanGate and its CEO Stockton Rush, where a series of bad decisions led to tragic consequences. During the training, participants will learn basic techniques that can be used when working with influx of information, conducting constructive dialogue, and making informed decisions in complex environments.

We engage them in the story via videos, real media reports, and practical exercises based on real characters and events. Participants analyze individual events from the perspective of the CEO, his employees, and independent observers. We try to approach the topic positively: what would have to be done differently for the story to be successful.

    Key topics

    • Analysis of the submersible story using the concept of sensemaking
    • Curve of curiosity as a tool for depolarization
    • Sensing vs intuition: how we initially perceive and select information
    • Working with cognitive biases in connection to the story and to the business projects of the participants
    • How to critically deal with information: 10 types of misleading information
    • Socratic dialogue – how to conduct a structured dialogue to find the best solution

    Objectives

    • Form attitude: admit own fallibility and cultivate humility
    • Identify selected types of cognitive biases and their impact on making business decisions
    • Acquire practical tools for applying sense-making and critical thinking in practice
    • Learn the basic principles of conducting structured dialogue in discussions
    • Work with different perspectives and use them to make qualified decisions
